Defending Champions City Oilers needed over to prevail over KIU 75-65 in the Airtel National Basketball League on Friday at Lugogo.
KIU Titans are to many, the likely title challengers and did their reputation no harm as they pushed City Oilers’ into overtime with normal time tied 56-up despite a futile overtime period.
Kami Kabange dropped a game high 18points aided by James Okello’s’ 17points as the defending champions saw off a potential title challenger.
“KIU is very hard working and solid team, I am not surprised we’re went into overtime,” Mande Juruni the City Oilers’ coach noted, whose side out scored KIU 19-9 in overtime.
Henry Malinga top scored for KIU with 15points, the only player into double figures for University side while Norman Blick and Nasheke Omanye dropped 9points each.
In the ladies division; USPA female basketballer of the year Claire Lamunu got a game high 23 points, Flavia Oketcho with 14points as KCCA Leopards overpowered A1Challenge 67-56 in a game that saw the return of UK-based netballer Peace Proscovia.
Kassim Hatima 13, Desire Obua 13 and Moreen Amoding 10points as A1Challenge labored against the defending ladies champions.
