Kenya Police is holding a Ugandan national who allegedly confessed to being a member of the Somalia-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
According to Mr Ngatia Iregi, the Kajiado Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, said that on interrogation Swaleh Baluku, who was arrested by at the Namanga border post on Wednesday evening, told police he had undergone training with Al-Shabaab in Somalia.
“Upon going through his phone we found video clips of terror activities in Somalia and that is when we arrested him,” Mr Iregi said, adding that Baluku also told police he was a former Ugandan soldier who once served under the African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia, AMISOM.
The Kenyan officer further revealed that Baluku, who is currently being held at Kajaido Prison as investigations continue, claimed he was headed to Tanzania to visit his wife.
By press time it was not possible to contact army spokesperson Lt Col Paddy Ankunda over Baluku’s claims that he once served under AMISOM.
