Miss Uganda suffers setback as sponsors pull out

Must read

This search for this year’s Miss Uganda started late; in September and not April as it has been the case in the previous editions.

Brenda Nanyonjo, the Miss Uganda franchise vendor for the past five editions, has blamed this on lack of sponsorship.

“I would like to make one thing clear, we usually have our Miss Uganda launch around April or May but because of the political situation in the country, we still had to wait for confirmation from sponsors and also make sure that the political and the economy is able so that is why we have launched rather a bit late…” she told journalists at the launch of this year’s edition, confirming she had got the needed sponsors.

Among these were; Huawei, UBIC, Brovad Sands Lodge, Pemba Sports Africa, Reach A Hand Foundation and Zziwa Hair.

However, as you read this, so far two have pulled out. First, it was Jack Pemba of Pemba Sports. The reason for his pulling out is not yet known but what we can confirm is, he has been followed by Hair by Zziwa.

The hair stylist came out and announced he had pulled out of this year’s pageant after he failed to agree on ‘a few terms’ with the organisers.

“Hair by Zziwa is a proud sponsor of Miss Uganda 2016 and our dedication is unwavering. However, after a careful and completed review of our sponsorship priorities, we have decided that Miss Uganda International 2016, no longer aligns with our sponsorship priorities. We are still committed to supporting all the girls competing for the title,” the company wrote.

This year’s grand finale is on Saturday, October 51, at Serena Hotel Kampala.
