Uganda drops in FIFA rankings

Must read

Football governing body FIFA has announced the November rankings with Uganda dropping four places to position 74.

Following the 1-1 draw with Congo Brazzaville in the last World Cup qualifier match, the Cranes have a total of 503 points which puts the national team at 15th position in Africa.

However, Uganda remains the best in East Africa after neighbours Kenya dropped nine slots to 111, Tanzania to 142, Burundi to 138 and Rwanda down to 120.

Senegal have risen to 23rd, their highest-ever position on the global ladder after securing a first World Cup place since 2002. They are now the top-ranked African nation, having leapfrogged fellow Russia 2018 qualifiers Tunisia (27th, up 1) and Egypt (31st, down 1).

The top five countries in the world maintain their spots: Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina and Belgium, respectively.

FIFA rankings are based on the average number of points that a team accumulates over a four-year period. The ranking points in each match are determined by its result, its value and the relative strength of the opponent and their confederation. The system also has yearly basis depreciation for the value of the matches.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be released on December 21, 2017.
