Sports Club Villa Jogoo will go to the polls when diehard fans and life members vote for their new president at Masaka Royal Gardens on August 24, 2018.
SC Villa is one of the most successful and supported teams in Ugandan football with 16 league titles and 9 Ugandan Cup titles. However, they have won only two Uganda Cup titles since 2003.
Over the past decade, there has been administration turmoil at the club and this has been due to lack of knowledge on how to run a football club by the Presidents leading to a decline in success.
For instance, from August 2012 to July 2014, they were run by an interim committee after their president Fred Muwema was banned from Ugandan football activities by FUFA.
Eng. Immanuel Ben Misagga took over as the club’s president at the start of the 2014/15 season and the club has won one Uganda Cup title and that was in his first year in administration.
However, the club has had many administrative wrangles and several instances of players and managers’ welfare issues under his regime with divisions amongst fans.
After 14 years without winning the Ugandan league, Villa fans will need to vote for a president with general administrative skills, unquestionably integrity and commitment with the ability to invest and take them back to the top where they belong.
One of the candidates for Presidency is Edgar Agaba, the CEO of The National Gaming Board in Uganda and a well-known long life SC Villa fan who attends games home and away.
Mr. Agaba has over 15 years vast experience in advising Government and offering policy and technical advice on aspects of privatization, procurement of works, goods and services, monitoring compliance, assessment of performance, reviewing and auditing procurement processes.
He is a fans’ favourite with all the required qualities who will unite the fans and make SC Villa Jogoo great again.
Agaba holds a strong record in management having spent six years as the Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) until 2011.
He was also interviewed for the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Director job where he emerged the best in the interview before Richard Byarugaba was appointed to the post.
Villa’s most successful period domestically remains the years 1998 to 2004 when the record 16-time league champions won seven straight titles. It was the first Ugandan club to clinch a local “Double”.
The Jogoos last won the league in 2004 under the guidance of former Cranes Manager Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
