Kampala: Three activists have been arrested and detained at Central Police Station as they tried to force their way to parliament to petition Speaker Rebecca Kadaga over the deteriorating health conditions of Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze.

The three are Habib Buwembo, Juma Kabotongo and Yasin Galiwango contends that Nambooze is not receiving sufficient medication at Kiruddu referral hospital, now they want Speaker to compel police for her immediate release.

They faulted legislators for not stepping up for her release instead they pay courtesy visits, pose in picture and share them on social media.

After minutes of negotiation, police ordered them to choose one among them to take the petition; they insisted leading to their arrest.

Nambooze was two weeks ago, arrested from her home in Mukono in relation to the publication on her Facebook page about the gunning down of Arua Municipality legislator Ibrahim Abigira by hooded assailants traveling on a motorcycle. She was charged with offensive communication and released on police bond.

However, she was on the next day re-arrested and detained at Naggalama police station. While in police cells her health condition started deteriorating leading to her admission in Kiruddu referral hospital.

Earlier in the day, this website managed to speak to her in hospital and she said her life is not good, “don’t get surprised when God calls me now, I was arrested but this matter has no complainant,”

Recently after visiting Nambooze at the sick bed, the Chairman of Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Meddi Kaggwa implored police to release Nambooze for further treatment, “if anything happens to her it is you to blame,” he said at the hospital.
