National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Presidential candidate Kyagulanyi Sentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine has not shown up for questioning as the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Justice Simon Byabakama directed.
Last week, EC summoned Bobi Wine and the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat over continuous breaching of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) peddled at curbing the spread of Covid-19.
Earlier today, security was beefed up at the Electoral Commission in preparation to receive the two candidates. To EC’s dismay, they didn’t show up.
According to Bobi Wine, they are too busy to halt their camping trails. “Halting our campaigns means that the EC will reschedule the campaign time table to cover the day missed,” he said.
In tandem, FDC’s Amuriat also didn’t show up over the same matter. Over the weekend, the secretary general of FDC Nathan Nandala Mafabi said their candidate cannot come for such a meeting because is too busy conversing for support.
“The EC would have written to the secretary general of FDC not Amuriat. Amuriat is a property of FDC, he was nominated by the secretary general of the party,” Nandala said.
Justice Byabakama averred that on 17th, 18th of November Bobi Wine held mass rallies in Koboko and Iganga. He also alleges that Amuriat held processions in Mbarara and other areas. The two were required to appear before the commission today Monday 14th and respond to the allegations.
