The ongoing peace initiative by regional bloc the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on South Sudan could be a waste of time as internal bickering in Juba continues unchecked.
Reports from many factions in Juba indicate that one impediment to the success of the peace initiative is the head of National Security Services Internal Security’s Bureau Gen. Akol Koor Kuc. Gen. Koor is reported to be untouchable and will not take anything if it isn’t in his interests.
Despite repeated calls by other factions to be recognized at the peace initiative in Nairobi has hit hitch as the all-powerful Gen. Akol downplays their significance.
“However, what appears to be clear despite the suffering of the people is the fact that some of those who are tasked with keeping the security of the people of South Sudan are using the power to achieve their own personal political ambitions. The reason we doubt if we shall achieve total peace is because NSS is an impediment instead of being a facilitator. Akol is the evil that continues to make millions as South Sudanese suffer.” one of the groups told Eagle Online on condition of anonymity because has no authority to do so.
One such leader of the rebel group, South Sudan United Front/Army is former head of the army Gen. Paul Malong, who denied recently denied meeting Gen. Koor in Nairobi.
Gen. Malong downplayed Gen. Koor as someone who did not fire a bullet against the enemy during their liberation struggle and insinuated that he lacked the temerity to convince him to abandon rebellion, leave his exile base in Kenya, and return to Juba.
Malong also said his movement did not accept an invitation by the government of Kenya to participate in a new peace initiative to be mediated by President Willam Ruto but doubts that South Sudan will hold elections in December.
Gen. Koor’s haters also allege that he printed South Sudan Pounds through Central Bank and that he has over 112 fake companies milking the oil companies from National Revenue.
“His interests are in milking national coffers of the little resources as he is allegedly owning seven big hotels and 15 small ones plus shares in Radisson Blu, Pyramid, imperial hotel, Venicia Supermarket and numerous of forex companies, all these companies are under several security officers headed by SUDD Services company led by Brig Dut Abraham. He has a lot of Cash in local money. The idea is that when the central bank printing money country notes Akol Koor must add 5 percent on top, he has not less than 2.5 billion in Figi island claiming the money to be for SPLM and the president under control of his sick wife in Australia.”
The accusers claim that Gen. Akol has penetrated the financial system through money laundering and printing machines and that goes back to 2012 when he was caught red handed and charged in case no 371 in the northern division police station in Juba.
The infighting within top South Sudan agencies like where Deng has accused his inner circle and Mayiik’s team for the leak of information whenever some steps are taken, then information is leaked ahead of time.
He accuses Mayiik’s team expressing great doubts about youth working with Mayiik. And so, he formed a committee headed by Waarwien Akol to check and try to find out how the leak of information happens and who could be the fifth Columns within. The committee will search and investigate to find out those responsible for that.

Last year in June, South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) denied claims that the head of the spy agency General Akol Koor Kuc is plotting to assassinate President Salva Kiir Mayardit in order to come to power and warned that adversaries are plotting to set the two men against each other.
WhatsApp groups have been circulating an audio message attributed to General Akol Koor saying that he has set up a team of traditional doctors to get rid of Kiir in order to replace him, claiming that the head of state has failed to bring development to the country and has instead led the country into war that has brought suffering upon the people.
“The public is hereby informed that the Director General is not in the country and does not know of such evil acts directed at harming the person of the President, his reputation, and integrity. Adversaries of the Director General, who want to create a rift between him, and H.E. the President concocted the media propaganda,” he said.
