August 11, 2026/KAMPALA-Police have arrested six suspects believed to be part of a group linked to the killing of SC Villa captain David Owori.
The suspects were arrested during separate operations conducted in Kampala and Wakiso District, as detectives intensified efforts to dismantle the gang behind the attack.
Police officers from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence and the Flying Squad Unit said the operations followed leads obtained during investigations into Owori’s death.
The officers also confirmed the recovery of Owori’s stolen mobile phone and other belongings taken from him during the attack.
How Owori was killed
Owori, 27, was attacked on Tuesday evening, August 4, near his home in Makindye, Kampala.
The footballer, who also featured for the Uganda Cranes, was reportedly attacked by suspected robbers after resisting their attempt to steal from him.
The attackers allegedly hit him with paving stones before fleeing with his belongings.
Owori was taken to Case Clinic for treatment but died from his injuries on Wednesday morning, August 5.
Phone tracking helps police
Investigators later tracked Owori’s iPhone 14 Pro Max, leading them to suspects believed to be connected to a stolen-phone network.
Among those arrested was Munyaneza Bashir, alias “Jemo”.
Police also recovered more than 130 mobile phones and other electronic gadgets during the operation.
The arrests have provided investigators with further leads as they work to establish the roles of the different suspects in the killing.
Media reports indicate that more suspects have since been taken into custody, with police footage showing several people being held in connection with the case.
Police say investigations are continuing, with efforts underway to arrest the remaining suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding Owori’s death.
