Vipers football club could win their second league title in history with victory over closest rivals SC Villa when the two meet at Nakivubo stadium today(friday).
Vipers (63 points) and Villa (62points) meet in a game that should decide who wins the 2014/15 Uganda Premier League title with one game left.
Villa, the record league champions go into the game aware that failure to beat the 2010 champions (Vipers) will all but hand the Bukiwe-based side the title.
“It’s a game we need to win,” said Ibrahim Kirya, the Villa coach head.
“Vipers are tough but neither are we easy,” he added, Villa have been camped at Namboole since Tuesday.
Villa will miss the services of left back Isaac Muleme who suffered a knock in the 1-0 win over Kira Young on Tuesday, but welcome back midfielder Chrizestom Ntambi who was rested.
Meanwhile Vipers’ Coach Edward Golola has highlighted their respect but not fear for Villa.
“They are good a side and deserve to be where they are. They are record league champions and play at home but though we respect them, we don’t fear them,” he said.
A draw will still keep Vipers in leadership position but the visitors are not ready to play for a point.
“We never play for a point but points and it won’t be any different this time round,” Golola noted.
Villa must beat Vipers to reclaim log leadership and also match Vipers’ result in their last game.
Villa will visit Bright Stars while Vipers host Bul in Bukiwe in the last (Tuesday) of the season.
