SC Villa poised for continental clash at Namboole

Must read

SC Villa tactician Ambrose Kirya says the team is high in confidence ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first round, first leg tie with JKU of Zanzibar in Kampala on Saturday, 12th evening.
The 2015 Uganda Cup winners will host Coastal club in the first round tie at Namboole, with kick-off at 4pm for only Shs5000. The winner over 180 minutes is expected to play the victor between FUS Rabat (Morocco) or Equatorial Guinea’s Deportivo Mongomo.
Villa are riding a four-game winless run, picking goalless draws in all four of their last four league games.
“The previous results have put us in a confident mood considering we did well in Africa in the previous round (won 1-0 home and away against Sudanese Khartoum Watani),” Kirya tells EagleOnline.
“It is always nice and any player will tell you it is nice going into a game with a win or a draw behind you from the previous game. Whether it is a CAF game or not, the confidence is there. It gives the players another opportunity to show what they can do thus much more expsure.”
Kirya feels it is important Jogoo do not concede on home turf against their weaker opponents who lost -3-1 to another Ugandan side URA in Mapinduzi Cup earlier this year.
“We just have to make sure that we do what is necessary for us. Every football lover in Uganda should to Namboole and support the team as we fly Uganda’s flag and hope to reclaim Villa’s lost glory.
“The fact that we are at home in our first leg puts a little more added pressure on the team because we can not afford to concede any goals. We need to get on the score sheet at home – the players need to utilise that.
