Thierry Henry chooses TV role over Arsenal

Must read

Henry Thierry has turned down the opportunity to join the club’s coaching staff on a permanent basis preferring the punditry job.

The move comes after Manager Arsene Wenger offered Henry a job as Under 18s assistant manager but with the condition that he steps down from his role as a pundit.

Thierry is believed to earn in the region of £4million-a-year at Sky but Wenger was concerned at the obvious issues raised by the club’s all-time record goal scorer criticizing Arsenal players in public only to then subsequently mix with them at their London Colney training base.

Thierry, Arsenal’s leading scorer with 228 goals with two spells at the club criticized Olivier Giroud as a player who cannot lead the team to winning any major trophy at the club.

The 38-year-old rejected the proposal to coach but he is still welcome to attend future sessions as he continues to work on his Pro License coaching badge, it will no longer be on an official basis as part of the setup.

Henry must now find a team to coach in order to complete his Pro License.

His departure has raised question marks about Wenger’s willingness to work with some of his former  and this comes weeks after Mikel Arteta was also offered a role with the youth teams after the midfielder decided to retire at the end of last season but opted to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
