Female Cranes seek redemption against Zanzibar | WOMEN’S CECAFA

Coach Magida Nantanda’s Uganda Crested Cranes will seek to put their loss to neighbuors Kenya on Sunday to rest with a win against Zanzibar tomorrow on match day three of the CECAFA women championship 2016 at in Njeru.

Burundi humiliated Zanzibar 10-1 in the first match of the day as Kenya overcame the hosts Uganda 4-0 on match day one.

The tournament resumes today with one group B game between Tanzania and Rwanda at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, Burundi will play Kenya in the opener at 2 pm before the two wounded lions will battle each other as Uganda hosts Zanzibar by 4 pm.

Kenya took a first half lead against Uganda through Mary Wanjiru Kinuthia.

The Kenyans dominated the second half with Mbeyu Esse Akida and Vivian Corazon adding the to score-line and Akida then getting her second of the day.

“We played a tough team and we need to go back to the drawing board for our next games,” said coach Nantanda.

Kenya’s captain Mary Wanjiku Kinuthia said she was “excited” to start the tournament with a big win, saying it would “motivate” them going forward.
