Expert advises on environment protection measures at the Kampala Industrial Park

The former senior vice president/Chief Economist in China Prof Justin Lin has called for protection of the environment while the development of the Kampala Industrial Business Park in Namanve is underway.

The renowned expert in industrialization, who is in the country to June 2, will meet with senior government officials to share his experiences and will deliver a public lecture today during the Uganda World Bank open day discussion starting at 2.30pm.

In a meeting of stakeholders at Kampala Industrial Business Park in Namanve that was aimed promoting industrialization in Uganda, Lin said it is a great way of creating employment for the population as well as boosting economy.

Some companies that were hosted by Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to pave a way for a successive industrialization at the Business Park in Namanve include Coca Cola, Mukwano Industries, Diamond Trust Bank, DFCU bank, and Roofings.

Prof. Lin’s visit is part of UNDP’s support to Uganda to re-ignite the discussion on industrialization.

“Industrial parks are a great to reach high value markets through targeted production,” Prof. Lin said, adding that he is an advocate of using the industrial park model as a way of igniting industrialization.

Speaking at the function the UIA Executive Director Jolly Kaguhangire promised to develop the KIP and to protect the environment alongside the development of good waste management mechanisms in line with the government vision of 2020.

‘’Uganda investment authority uses a reactive approach to provide the basic resources in form of water, electricity to all industries in the industrial parks’’ Ms Kaguhangire added.
