National Gaming Board partners with KCCA to streamline betting in Kampala

National Gaming Board has today joined with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to discuss a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at streamlining gaming/betting operations in Kampala.

In a meeting that took place at City Hall, NGB CEO Edgar Agaba and other officials met with the KCCA Executive Director Eng. Andrew Kitaka to discuss a collaboration aimed at making better of the industry within the city.

The main aims will be to conduct investigation, examination, inspection and issue guidelines, directives or instructions for the proper management of the industry and to protect the citizens from the adverse effects of gaming and betting in Uganda.

In Kampala, there are over 500 active operators engaged in various gambling modes and techniques, earning government approximately ten billion shillings.

Gambling in Uganda is a legal activity authorized and regulated under The National Lotteries Act and the Gaming and Pool Betting (Control and Taxation) Act. It mainly takes the following form: lotteries, casinos and gaming and pool betting.

The National Gaming Board Uganda under section 4 of the Lotteries and Gaming Act, 2016 is mandated to issue licenses for Lotteries, Casinos, Gaming and Betting in Uganda. The mandate includes Licensing, Supervision, Enforcement and dispute resolution.

The Board has powers to conduct investigation, examination, inspection and issue guidelines, directives or instructions for the proper management of the industry.

Kampala Capital City Authority is the legal entity, established by the Ugandan Parliament that is responsible for the operations of the capital city of Kampala in Uganda.
