Express crowned 2020/21 UPL champions

Express Football Club has been officially crowned as the 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions.

The crowning ceremony took place at the headquarters of StarTimes Uganda, Soliz House in Kampala on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

The Red Eagles were awarded with a trophy, medals and Shs60 million as prize money for league champions.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo presided over the official event also graced by the CEO StarTimes Uganda, Franklin Wang, Kenneth Kazooba (StarTimes content director), Bernard Bainamani (Uganda Premier League), Humphrey Mandu Watenga (FUFA Deputy CEO) and representatives of the champions.

Express was ably represented by the winning coach Wasswa Bbosa, goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga, CEO Isaac Mwesigwa, board member Suubi Kiwanuka, former chairperson Owek. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi among others club staff.

Wasswa Bossa said: “This is the victory that I have been yearning for about the last four years. I am humbled for this victory. I thank the team management, my fellow technical staff, players, fans and our sponsors. We are ready to play for a successful title defence.”

Express will represent the country at the CAF Champions League. Runners up URA were appointed by FUFA to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

Express’ Mathias Muwanga was named the outstanding goalkeeper of the league, earning a plaque and Shs1,000,000 cash.

The top scorer, Yunus Sentamu (scorer of 16 goals) of Vipers SC was also rewarded with a plaque and Shs1,000,000 cash.
