Airtel Uganda has partnered with ZTE Corporation, a Chinese telecommunications company, to enhance digital inclusion across Uganda.

This collaboration aims to provide Ugandans with seamless internet access and innovative services, capitalizing on the growing digital era.

According to the Uganda Communications Commission’s 2024 Market Report, 16.7 million Ugandans own smartphones, indicating a rising demand for internet access. This statistic shows that more Ugandans will continue to actively seek access to smartphones and use the internet for both business and personal purposes.

Airtel Uganda’s partnership with ZTE Corporation underscores its commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation.

“Our continuous collaboration with industry players is to ensure that our customers enjoy products and services that they can leverage to develop themselves,” said Ali Balunywa, Director of Sales and Distribution at Airtel Uganda. “A smartphone and good internet connection in this era can offer endless opportunities such as starting online businesses, studying, research, entertainment, among others.”

Balunywa added that offering affordable smartphones through this partnership opens access to opportunities for those with limited funds to generate sustainable income.

Airtel customers who purchase the ZTE Nubia smartphone will enjoy a 15GB data offer valid for three months and discounted data plans for ZTE Nubia users who pay through Airtel Money.

Micheal Xue, CEO of ZTE Devices Uganda, expressed excitement about the ZTE Nubia launch in Uganda, citing plans to expand across Africa. “We have already launched in 20 African countries including Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, among others and next year we will put more products into the African market,” Xue said.

Xue emphasized ZTE’s long-term commitment to Africa, stating, “We are not going anywhere, we are here to stay for a very long time.” He also highlighted the importance of partnerships, saying, “We have partners here like Airtel Uganda and in future we will have more partners that we can do business with.”

The ZTE Nubia Smartphone series features a dual 3.5mm earphone jack for a great listening experience, a 500mAh large battery with an extreme fast charging rate, a good camera backed with 50 MAF on the rear end plus AI, 5 MFF at the front which produces great photos and videos, wireless FM Radio which can be enjoyed on the go, and 4G internet connectivity for a seamless experience guaranteed with high definition videos and photos.
