The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB), working with the Uganda Police Force has confiscated more than 200 illegal gaming machines in enforcement operations targeting unauthorised gambling activities across several parts of the country.

The machines were seized in Kampala Metropolitan, Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, Isingiro, Kibuku, Pallisa and Lamwo districts as authorities stepped up efforts to enforce gaming regulations and curb illegal gambling operations.

In an update, the board said the operations were continuing across the country, with information from local leaders and members of the public helping enforcement teams identify suspected illegal gaming activities.

“Enforcement operations remain ongoing across the country, and we thank all leaders and community members whose information continues to support these enforcement efforts,” the board said.

The board also urged members of the public to report suspected illegal gaming activities, including operators, manufacturers and suppliers, as part of efforts to strengthen oversight of the gaming industry.

The public can report suspected violations through the board’s toll-free helpline, 0800285800, WhatsApp number 0760597435 or email address info@lgrb.go.ug.

The seizures form part of the regulator’s efforts to ensure that gaming activities in Uganda operate within the law. The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board is responsible for regulating and supervising lotteries, casinos, sports betting, gaming machines and other licensed gaming activities in the country.

Illegal gaming operations can undermine regulatory oversight and expose players to risks where operators work outside the safeguards and requirements imposed on licensed businesses.

The board has continued to work with police and other stakeholders to identify unauthorised operators and enforce compliance with the laws governing the gaming sector.

The latest operation signals continued enforcement beyond Kampala, with seizures reported in districts in western and eastern Uganda as well as northern Uganda.

The board has called on communities to share credible information that can help authorities identify illegal operators and suppliers as nationwide enforcement operations continue.
