Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party, Kigulu North parliament losing candidate Ismail Badogi has won a petition against the February polls results that were won by NRM’s Fred Bwino Kyakulaga.
High Court in Jinja ruled that Mr. Kyakulaga be thrown out of parliament over forged Declaration Forms during the vote counting.
Kyakulaga joins the long list of NRM legislators who have been sent packing in the last few weeks like Peter Sematimba (Busiro South), Peter Mugema alias Panadol [Iganga municipality), Lillian Nakatte (Luweero Woman MP) and Cissy Namujju (Lwengo Woman MP) among others.
Ismail Badogi in February rejected the poll results and petitioned Iganga High court. He was particularly concerned that on February 18th, he was in a comfortable lead with 14,000 votes while his rival had 9000 votes when the tally center was closed.
Badogi however, says that he was shocked when his rival was announced winner when tallying resumed the next day. He accused Electoral Commission of altering the results in favor of his rival. Badogi also accused Jackson Higenyi, the Iganga District, Returning Officer, declared Kyakulaga winner with 17,000 votes of leaving out the results from Nawandala Sub County without any explanation.
Higenyi has denied any wrongdoing, saying he announced the true results. He also insisted that many of his votes were inter-changed and given to Kyakulaga.
Badogi also claimed that there was foul play in Nawandala sub-county, where Kyakulaga secured the biggest number of votes.
