The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) presidents yesterday met at the Federation of Uganda Football Association headquarters Mengo, Kampala to deliberate on football development in the region, including hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo hosted Zanzibar’s Ravia Faina, Kenya’s Nicholas Mwendwa, Hon. Reverien Ndikuniyo from Burundi alongside Juneidi Tilmo from Kenya, Vincent Nzamwita of Rwanda and Jamal Malinzi from Tanzania.
The seven Football Association presidents resolved to among other issues convene a congress of CECAFA to amend the regional body’s Constitution.
Other issues included: ensuring the CECAFA region gets permanent headquarters; improving on CECAFA competition with emphasis on youth events and beach soccer and, improving the technical aspects of the game in terms of refereeing, coaching, and administration.
The officials also resolved to re-brand and improve marketing and communication for the CECAFA region; submitting a bid to host African Cup of Nations Finals as CECAFA region and to have effective representation on the CAF executive committee.
They also resolved to draft a proposal on how to access funds from FIFA to support CECAFA activities in line with developing football at Youth, women and Beach soccer levels.
At the end of their meeting FUFA President Magogo gave the six visiting presidents Uganda Cranes historic jerseys used in the 2017 AFCON Finals in Gabon as souvenirs.
