The Police Advisory Committee (PAC) has recommended that Inspector of Police (IP) Joshua Cheptegei, who broke three World Records in long distance running competitions this year, to be promoted to his next rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
IGP Okoth Ochola who is the Chairperson of the PAC, made the announcement to honour the athlete on Wednesday, 21st October 2020 during the meeting.
Cheptegei holds the 5km road world record he broke in Monaco in February, and then broke Kenenisa Bekele’s 16-year-old track world record time over the 5,000m as he clocked 12min 35.36sec. Earlier this month in Spain, he again broke Bekele’s 10,000m track world record by by more than six seconds clocking 26mins 11sec.
While addressing journalists at media centre today, the police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that the recommendation follows his exceptional performance when he broke four world records in long distance running.
